Nothing served here stands out to me as being extraordinarily delicious. I like this place because it's close to my job, serves very large portions and is very affordable. I've only had a few menu items and eventually, I guess i'll venture out and try other things. Their peach cobbler is tasty though and I've only encountered really nice people working here. Always very friendly staff willing to give their input on menu items.

My husband and I were in the area for Cirque du Soleil and wanted to grab a relatively quick and inexpensive dinner beforehand. We perused Yelp and drove around and a bit, and we were about to give up hope of finding ANYTHING remotely acceptable. Seriously -- we got to the point where we were like"TGI Friday's would be fine!" This area is not chock full of interesting spots to eat. Finally, we spotted Esther's sign that says "Breakfast -- Lunch -- Dinner," and thought it was worth a try. It definitely was. Esther's is set up with a menu overhead and cashiers that you order at right in front. You can see into the food prep area, and once your giant takeout container is full, you can seat yourself. It was very quick, which I liked. But it does seem like the kind of place where they run out of certain dishes early, just FYI. The service was quick and we got our giant portions. Seriously, this is either for you if you're starving, or if you enjoy having multiple-day leftovers, like I do! I had curry chicken (tasted just like my mom's -- good sign!), rice and beans, and tostones. I loved it. My husband had oxtail (very saucy), yellow rice (not my favorite, but he liked it), and mac and cheese. We both left very happy. I'm not sure I would drive all the way out here for this meal, BUT if I were anywhere near the area, I would definitely head back for a very filling and delicious meal.

I lived across the street from Esther's for a little over a year. I treated myself to them once in a while and the food was always good. Except the mac n cheese. The mac n cheese sucks. I went back a few weeks ago & asked for fried pork chops, smothered in gravy(which they usually don't come with) and my collard greens in a separate container. The girl at the front said "you asking for a whole lot now..." Are you kidding? Also went here with my boyfriend a few times and the same girl would be absolutely rude to me but be sweet and smiley with my boyfriend. I've never been a complainer so I would always rather take my food and go. However, I don't agree with having such hood rats at the front, their only job is customer service and they can't even do that right. Esther's; food is amazing, service is nonexistent. Stick to only catering or hire new staff. Will not be coming back.

Probably one of the worst meals i have ever had. Here are the issues i had: 1) The macaroni and cheese tasted like it was made with government cheese. It had a very odd flavor to it. 2) The yellow rice, somehow, was not cooked well. I am unsure how they found a way to mess up rice, but, they did. 3) The chicken wings werent even good, and i though they would be the safest bet. A co worker told me since the place was close that we should try it. My 2 co-workers meals were just as bad as mine. The "Spicy" BBQ sauce was terrible. It was neither spicy nor resembling BBQ sauce. It was really just a terrible meal all together. 4) The mashed potatoes made instant potatoes seem like home cooking. They were as awful as the other items, and the gravy was like brown water. I wouldn't recommend this place to a starving person who had a coupon for a free meal here.

This locally owned African-American chain restaurant can only be found in Miami. This one in particular is one of the newer chain restaurant and has a drive-through. Esther's is really known for its catering service, but while they've got the catering part running fine, they thought they could also serve the food who's hungry on the spot. I mean... why not?! I had the barbecue pork ribs and it fell off the bone, meaning that it's quite tender indeed. I could cut it with my fork - no need for a knife. It was good, alongside with the cole slaw and plantains. Expect to find breakfast, lunch and dinner here - all American or Southern style or Soul (I honestly am not quite sure what's the difference between Southern and Soul at the moment). Either way, it is definitely what African Americans would consider comfort food (which explains why this chain restaurant can only usually be found in African American neighborhoods), and growing up in the South, I could relate. PROS: food, price, locations (they're spread out in heavily African American areas of Miami-Dade. Just check the website and in Yelp under Esther's and the corresponding numbers that reflects its street location).
